L&T lands ₹5,000-₹10,000 crore contracts for Dhaka Metro Line 1 infrastructure

L&T has secured contracts worth between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore for Bangladesh's first underground metro line, covering track works and signalling systems.

L&T announced it won two sizable contracts, valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore, for Bangladesh’s inaugural underground metro line, Dhaka Metro Line 1. The awards comprise Contract Package CP09, which covers track construction, power supply, traction substations and overhead catenary, and Contract Package CP10, responsible for signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors across the 31-kilometre corridor.

The line, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, will feature 19 stations from Kamalapur to the airport and from Natun Bazar to Purbachal Terminal, with a depot at Pitalganj. Sumitomo Corporation will execute the design, procurement and commissioning of the track and electrical systems, while L&T will supply and install the signalling and related equipment. This follows L&T’s previous successful delivery of integrated railway systems for Dhaka Metro Line 6 and its ongoing work on the Jakarta Metro, underscoring its expanding footprint in Asian urban transit projects.

Why it matters

The deal advances Bangladesh's mass-transit network and highlights L&T's growing role in major Asian infrastructure projects.
