Labor Minister says new salary law hinges on budget decisions and deficit targets

Labor Minister Florin Manale told Digi24 that the adoption of the new salary law depends on budget choices and Romania's deficit commitments.

During an interview on Digi24’s “În Fața Ta,” Labor Minister Florin Manale said the timing of the new salary law is linked to Romania’s budgetary agenda and its obligations to keep the deficit under control. He noted that the government must prioritize budget adjustments and the drafting of the 2027 budget, which will involve choices about pension raises, allowance levels and the indexing of other social benefits. The law is intended for 2027, but no specific adoption date was set, and it might be enacted early in 2027 or possibly later, with implementation potentially beginning in 2028.

Manale stressed the need for caution, warning that public salary figures should not be interpreted as firm commitments to increase spending. He also highlighted that the government must address other urgent matters, such as measures to protect vulnerable consumers, while adhering to fiscal rules and European Commission commitments.
