Labor Ministry cites 473 violations at Hanwha Aerospace after deadly Daejeon blast
South Korea's labor ministry reported 473 legal breaches at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant, where a June explosion killed five workers.
The labor ministry conducted a targeted audit of Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon plant after a June explosion killed five employees and wounded two. Inspectors identified 473 infractions, with 189 cases—184 safety and health violations and five failures to protect subcontracted workers—prompting legal proceedings. The other 284 breaches attracted administrative fines that sum to roughly 500 million won.
The blast erupted in Building 56, a workshop for cleaning tools tainted by rocket propellant, and the site has previously seen fatal accidents in 2018 (five deaths) and 2019 (three deaths). Authorities imposed the penalties to enforce stricter workplace safety standards at the defense contractor.
