Labour Party pushes for tighter rules on Norway's data centre sector

The Labour Party's national council approved a set of stricter regulations for the Norwegian data centre industry, which currently includes 112 registered facilities operated by 60 commercial companies. The new rules require that a substantial portion of the value generated by data centres stays in Norway, through employment, tax contributions and supply-chain effects. Additional measures call for tighter criteria on site selection, enhanced oversight and higher energy efficiency requirements. Party deputy leader Jan Christian Vestre said the party will welcome new investments but will not grant every licence, emphasizing the need for local communities to benefit fairly from the sector's growth.
