Ladbrokes lists top contenders for upcoming Nobel literature prize

British bookmaker Ladbrokes published its odds for the next Nobel literature award, naming a slate of authors as the most likely winners.

Ahead of the Swedish Academy’s announcement of the Nobel literature laureate, Ladbrokes released its betting odds, placing Chinese author Can Xue at the forefront with a 10/1 chance. Haruki Murakami of Japan trails at 14/1, and both Gerald Murnane and Thomas Pynchon are priced at 16/1. Additional candidates such as Cristina Rivera Garza, Enrique Vila-Matas, Lídia Jorge, Ljudmila Ulickaja, Margaret Atwood and Michel Houellebecq each carry odds of 20/1.

The bookmaker also noted that Stephen King and J. K. Rowling each have 50/1 odds. The odds come after the 2025 Nobel was awarded to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the prize.
