Lake Travis high school football player dies at 17 following practice cardiac arrest

Seventeen-year-old Odin Hensley of Lake Travis High School died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a practice session.

Odin Hensley, a 17-year-old senior athlete at Lake Travis High School, suffered a cardiac arrest while practicing football on Monday morning. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and Travis County Star Flight responded, transporting him by helicopter to the intensive care unit at Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin. He passed away later that day, prompting an email from the school district and statements describing him as a dedicated two-sport athlete and valued teammate.

His stepmother, Angel Ruiz, called the loss “unbelievable,” and the school community gathered for a vigil at Lake Hills Church, attended by about 350 people. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help his family with financial pressures following the tragedy.
