Lancaster rallies late to force a 14-14 draw in final preseason scrimmage
Lancaster's football squad erased a 14-7 deficit in the closing minute of its last preseason scrimmage, ending the game in a 14-14 tie.
In the last preseason scrimmage before the regular season, Lancaster faced St. Charles on Aug. 13 and found themselves down 14-7 after the Cardinals' second score. Coach Jeremy McKinney praised his team's resilience, noting they avoided panic and responded to adversity. With under a minute remaining, Lancaster forced a defensive stop, then executed a rapid offensive series; Brody Broeckel connected with Kellen Knock and Jack Pompey before delivering a decisive pass to Jahmeir Gordon for the tying touchdown.
The game concluded at 14-14, a result the players and coaches said would build confidence ahead of the Aug. 21 opener against Hilliard Darby. Captains voted by teammates—including Broeckel, Gordon, Jackson Reynolds, Nik Brown, and Kellen Knock—are expected to lead the squad into the season.
Why it matters
The comeback shows Lancaster's ability to handle pressure, a key factor for success in the upcoming season.
