Landshut Court Begins Trial of Young Drug Trafficker Accused of Weaponized Debt Collection

A 26-year-old former inmate is on trial in Landshut for operating a kilogram-scale drug network across Bavaria and allegedly using a machine gun to enforce debt payments.

The Landshut regional court opened a trial on Monday against a 26-year-old native of Landshut who, after serving a five-year-nine-month youth sentence, allegedly re-entered the drug trade within weeks. Prosecutors claim he managed a kilogram-level distribution of cannabis, crystal meth, cocaine and heroin that spanned cities such as Regensburg, Passau, Augsburg and Munich. Four additional defendants, aged 24 to 53, are said to have handled logistics, with one providing a Regensburg apartment as a storage site.

A notable allegation involves the suspect brandishing a Škorpion machine gun to coerce a debtor in a Munich apartment. The case will be heard by the 3rd Criminal Chamber, chaired by Judge Inken Bouabe, with 18 hearing days planned and a judgment anticipated by mid-December.

Why it matters

The case highlights the resurgence of organized drug trafficking and the use of extreme violence in debt enforcement in Bavaria.
