Landslide crushes home in Almora, killing three family members

Heavy rain triggered a hillside collapse that slammed into a house in Udyuda village, Almora, killing Prema Devi, her son Manish and daughter Kalpana.

Intense monsoon showers over the Almora region caused a mass of debris to tumble down a slope on Tuesday morning. The slide struck the home of Prema Devi in Udyuda village, trapping her, her 17-year-old son Manish and 19-year-old daughter Kalpana. Rescue teams from the disaster management department, fire services and the State Disaster Response Force arrived quickly, but the three victims were already deceased when they were recovered.

The tragedy highlights the danger of landslides in rain-prone hill regions and the need for stronger early warning and mitigation measures.
