Landslides in Central Aceh kill one, injure 13 and block roads
One person was killed and 13 injured when landslides struck Central Aceh Regency, also blocking several roads.
On Sunday evening, intense rainfall caused landslides in Central Aceh Regency, Aceh province, impacting seven villages across the Kebayakan, Lut Tawar, Celala and Silih Nara districts. The slides resulted in one fatality and 13 injuries, and left several national, provincial and local roads obstructed by mud and debris. According to Berton Panjaitan, chief of BNPB’s acting disaster data, information and communication centre, two houses suffered severe damage and two others moderate damage.
The Central Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency is coordinating with other agencies, and a wheel loader and excavator have been sent to remove the blockage. Clearance work continues to restore road access for local communities. Residents have been warned to remain vigilant for further slides, especially during prolonged rain, and those near slopes are advised to relocate if they notice ground movement.
