Laos police seize 521 kg of crystal meth from Malaysia-origin private jet
Laos authorities confiscated more than 500 kg of crystal methamphetamine from a private jet that arrived from Malaysia at Luang Prabang International Airport, detaining 13 people.
Provincial police in Laos received a September tip about a drug syndicate planning to transport methamphetamine by air from Malaysia. On Oct 1 a Learjet (registration N73GP) was slated to land at Luang Prabang International Airport, prompting authorities to deploy specialised units. The raid uncovered 23 suitcases, 21 filled with white crystal meth totaling 521 kilogrammes, as well as a pickup truck used as evidence.
The aircraft itself was seized. Thirteen people were detained: the pilot, co-pilot, a foreign tourist, three company staff and seven airport workers, three of whom were women. This seizure represents one of the region’s largest drug busts and underscores Laos’ intensified fight against transnational narcotics trafficking.
