Laptop fire on American Airlines flight prompts emergency landing in Dallas

A laptop ignited aboard American Airlines Flight 2398, prompting the crew to extinguish the blaze and land at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, where one passenger received treatment.

On a flight departing Atlanta, a passenger's laptop ignited, creating smoke that the pilot communicated to air traffic controllers, describing a cabin fire in the rear of the aircraft. Flight attendants attempted to extinguish the device, which was contained near the middle of the cabin. The plane, carrying 133 people, completed an emergency landing at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Airport officials confirmed that one passenger received medical care for burns and was subsequently released. The pilot indicated that four to five passengers could have suffered burns, though only one case was documented. American Airlines praised the crew's swift response, and the FAA notes that lithium-battery incidents have been recorded on numerous flights this year.
