Large fire erupts at waste sorting facility near Sibiu, prompting RO-Alert warning

A blaze covering about 700 square meters broke out at a waste-sorting plant near Sibiu, leading authorities to issue a RO-Alert for nearby residents.

On Thursday evening, a significant fire ignited at a waste-sorting and recycling facility near the municipality of Sibiu, specifically in the locality of Şura Mică. The blaze affected an area of approximately 700 square metres and generated dense smoke, prompting emergency services to broadcast a RO-Alert to warn residents in the vicinity. Firefighters from ISU Sibiu arrived promptly and were reinforced with an extra fire-engine, a CBRN specialist vehicle, and two robotic fire-fighting units from ISU Alba.

Because of the substantial amount of waste on site, ISU Brașov also contributed two additional fire-engines to the operation. Authorities continue to work on containing the fire and preventing further smoke dispersion.
