Large mob raids Superior Grocers in South Los Angeles amid street takeover

Early Sunday morning, roughly 4:30 a.m., a mob of at least 20 assailants entered a Superior Grocers store in South Los Angeles during an illegal street takeover, driving terrified employees to the second floor where they barricaded themselves. Police responding to the scene captured one suspect, and no injuries were reported among staff or bystanders. The Los Angeles Police Department has not yet determined the amount of merchandise taken, and the store's reopening timeline remains uncertain.

The raid adds to a recent spate of violent smash-and-grab incidents tied to street takeovers, which have also hit AutoZone stores in East LA, Watts and Downey, as well as a pharmacy in Boyle Heights. City officials have assembled a task force aimed at dismantling the takeovers and the accompanying property crimes, but businesses continue to suffer from large, destructive crowds that block intersections at night.
