Latvia votes today to fill all 100 seats of its 15th Saeima

Latvia holds its 15th Saeima parliamentary election, with 1,428 candidates from 14 party lists competing for 100 seats.

On election day, Latvia elects the members of its 15th Saeima, offering 100 parliamentary seats across five electoral districts. A total of 1,428 candidates representing 14 party lists are contesting, a drop of five lists and 398 candidates from the 2022 election. The average competition per seat stands at 14.3 candidates, down from 18.3 previously.

Parties such as Sovereign Power/Young Latvians, the Progressives, Harmony Centre and New Unity appear on the ballot, with seven forces submitting the full quota of 125 candidates each. Voting can occur at any of the 933 in-person stations, as well as at new venues like Riga Airport and Riga Zoo, and mobile stations will serve remote areas. The Central Election Commission will publish preliminary results after counting ends.

The vote determines Latvia's legislative direction for the next term and reflects shifts in party competition and voter engagement.
