Laurent Wauquiez vows fiscal restraint and opposes pension cuts in 2027 budget debate
Les Républicains leader Laurent Wauquiez says his party will avoid budget censorship and reject pension reductions while pushing for additional savings.
Laurent Wauquiez, head of the Les Républicains parliamentary group, told Le Echos that his party will not resort to budgetary censorship and will refuse any new levies on pensioners. He accused the RN and left-wing factions of employing “censorship chantage” ahead of the presidential race. Wauquiez said LR will battle any increase in taxes for both citizens and firms while maintaining a stance against pension cuts.
He urged the RN to consider voting for the savings plan his party proposes. The proposed savings include cutting 43 billion euros of government effort, eliminating 7 billion euros by limiting RSA benefits, and capping all social aid at 70 % of the minimum wage.

The stance shapes the fiscal debate ahead of the 2027 budget and signals LR's policy priorities.
