Lavrov and ASEAN chief meet in Moscow to discuss energy, food security and partnership

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hosted ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn in Moscow to talk about energy, food security and future cooperation.

Sergey Lavrov welcomed ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn to Moscow for a series of meetings between October 12 and 15. The agenda focused on energy and food security, as well as broader strategic partnership and emerging challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. Hourn met officials from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, and Ministry of Energy, and also discussed the Eurasian Economic Commission’s 2026-2030 cooperation programme with its chairman.

He delivered remarks at the Russian Energy Week international forum. The trip commemorates 35 years of Russia-ASEAN ties and builds on commitments made at the June summit in Kazan, where both parties highlighted worries about global energy volatility caused by geopolitical tensions and supply-chain disruptions.

Why it matters

The talks aim to strengthen Russia-ASEAN ties on energy and food, influencing regional stability and trade.
