Lawler pulls ahead of Conley in tight NY 17th District race, internal poll shows
A new internal poll indicates Republican incumbent Mike Lawler leads Democrat Cait Conley by three points in New York's 17th Congressional District.
An internal poll commissioned by Rep. Mike Lawler’s campaign surveyed 400 likely voters between September 28 and 30, placing the Republican incumbent at 50% and his Democratic challenger, Cait Conley, at 47% in the 17th Congressional District. The poll’s margin of error is 4.9%, underscoring the race’s tightness. Among Republicans, Lawler enjoys 92% support versus 6% for Conley, while independents favor him 52% to 40%.
Conversely, Democrats back Conley 79% to Lawler’s 20%. The district, which includes Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties, was carried by Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election and is viewed as a key pickup target for Democrats in the upcoming midterms. The same survey also reported GOP gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman ahead of Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul in the district.
Why it matters
The race could determine party control of a pivotal swing district in the 2026 midterm elections.
