Lawmaker urges nationwide cooperation to tackle school-aged extremist violence

During a budget debate, MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin warned that nihilistic violent extremism is spreading among students and called for coordinated action by government, schools and parents.

In a parliamentary session on the 2027 Budget, MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin warned that nihilistic violent extremism, an emerging trend of senseless violence among schoolchildren, is becoming a frightening crisis. She argued that education policies shape future generations, with effects visible only decades later, and that safeguarding children now requires a national effort. Samsudin called for the government to publish periodic school-safety audit reports, detail critical repairs, and disclose teacher vacancy data by specialty.

She questioned whether the Health Ministry receives mental-health data from the Education Ministry, noting that without such information targeted interventions are impossible. The MP also appealed to parents to reflect on their role, citing simple actions like checking schoolbags, and warned against placing all blame on schools, teachers, and ministers.

Why it matters

It highlights growing concerns about youth radicalisation and the need for coordinated policies to protect schoolchildren.
