Lawyer demands murder probe after detainee dies from blunt-force injuries in custody
Noorizwan Zulkefly died in hospital after being taken from IPD Cheras, with no explanation given for his detention on 20 Sept. His lawyer is calling for a Section 302 murder investigation.
Noorizwan Zulkefly, 42, was declared dead at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz after being taken from IPD Cheras, with no public reason given for his arrest on 20 Sept. A forensic report indicated that blunt-force impact caused serious injuries, including six to seven broken ribs and spinal damage. His counsel, N Surendran, highlighted the lack of information about the detention and called for the incident to be classified as a murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, to be investigated by an independent unit.
Surendran also criticized the monitoring of detainees while in custody. Noorizwan’s younger sibling, Nooranis, said the family was unaware of the detention and only received a call from a Bukit Aman officer on the night of the death informing them of the outcome. The family continues to seek answers about the arrest and the conditions of confinement. Police chief Mohd Rosdi Daud was approached for comment.
