Lawyer for injured teen files homicide attempt complaint after police grenade blast
Eden's lawyer announced a complaint alleging attempted homicide after the 14-year-old was struck in the face by a police grenade launcher during a school protest.
Eden, a 14-year-old student, suffered grave facial injuries after a police officer fired a grenade launcher at close range during a high school protest in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, Val-d’Oise. His lawyer, Elsa Marcel, announced a formal complaint charging the officer with attempted voluntary homicide, condemning the use of such a lethal weapon. The teenager now has a double jaw fracture, all upper teeth broken and many lower teeth missing, requiring him to eat through a straw and rendering him unable to speak.
Video footage shows three helmeted officers confronting the student before the blast. An investigation by the Inspection générale de la police nationale (IGPN) has been launched for police violence, adding to several other IGPN inquiries opened since the start of the student mobilizations.
