Le Pen's National Rally Gains Liberal Boost from Eric Ciotti's UDR Alliance

Marine Le Pen will not run the 2027 presidential campaign alone; she now counts the Union of the Right for the Republic (UDR), led by Eric Ciotti, as a key partner. At a recent southern-France gathering, Ciotti pledged support and unveiled roughly fifteen reform ideas, such as pension changes, reduced inheritance taxes and a streamlined bureaucracy, aimed at softening the RN's historically statist stance. The UDR, formed in 2024 after a split from Les Républicains, supplies the RN with seasoned politicians familiar with parliamentary and local governance, offering the institutional legitimacy the RN lacks.

New faces like Charles Alloncle and Guilhem Carayon are being positioned to reshape the coalition's image, while figures such as Sarah Knafo and David Lisnard represent competing right-wing currents. By borrowing liberal-conservative policy cues from the UDR, the RN hopes to reassure entrepreneurs, affluent retirees and traditional conservatives that a Le Pen presidency would not threaten economic stability.
