Lead contamination forces water supply shutdown in Odolena Voda area
Středočeské vodárny announced that tap water in Zahájí and surrounding villages supplied from the Odolena Voda reservoir is unsafe for drinking or cooking due to excessive lead levels.
The regional water company said the water quality problem affects the Zahájí locality and other settlements drawing from the Odolena Voda reservoir. Because of the contamination, alternative water deliveries will be arranged for priority sites such as schools, kindergartens and medical facilities. Earlier tests had met standards, but recent samples revealed lead concentrations above legal limits, prompting intensified monitoring.
Why it matters
Contaminated tap water poses health risks, especially for children and patients, and requires emergency supply measures.
