Leaked Xbox Elite Series 3 Prototype Shows Built-In Screen and New Controls

A Reddit user posted photos of a likely Xbox Elite Series 3 controller prototype featuring a tiny display, scroll wheels and a pair button, but the device does not connect to an Xbox.

A Reddit post presenting what appears to be an Xbox Elite Series 3 controller prototype has surfaced, showing a device purchased for $200 on OfferUp. The prototype includes a miniature screen adjacent to a newly introduced pair button, two scroll wheels on the lower edge, four rear paddles, and a different detachable D-pad than earlier leaks suggested. Screenshots from the controller display the XCloud rocket icon alongside an Xbox Series X and a URL leading to a Microsoft cloud resource, lending credibility to the images.

Despite the hardware, the controller does not pair with an Xbox console or via cable, only flashing a red light. Photos of the battery compartment reveal a QR code likely intended for repair instructions and accessible Torx T6 screws, indicating a focus on serviceability. Labels reading “NOT FOR SALE” and placeholder regulatory IDs confirm the unit is a prototype. Microsoft analyst Tom Warren reports that sources expect the Elite Series 3 to launch later this year.

Why it matters

The leak hints at new features for Microsoft's flagship Xbox controller, affecting gamers and the competitive accessories market.
