Leapmotor B03X electric SUV offers spacious interior and fast charging but feels unfinished

Leapmotor’s B03X is a compact electric SUV that maximises interior volume through a 2,605 mm wheelbase, offering generous legroom, a flat floor and multiple storage solutions, including a lift-up rear seat base and a dual-compartment boot. It houses a 53 kWh battery promising a maximum range of 237 miles and a front-mounted motor rated at 194 bhp, achieving 0-62 mph in 8.6 seconds. Rapid charging is a strong point, with up to 133 kW DC capability that can raise the state of charge from 30 to 80 percent in roughly 16 minutes, plus an 11 kW onboard AC charger.

Standard equipment is extensive, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels, a 14.6-inch high-resolution touchscreen, heated seats, and a suite of 21 driver-assistance functions. However, test drives in Southern Spain revealed a steering feel that is too light, tyre grip that fades under moderate acceleration, and driver-assist systems that behave inconsistently, accompanied by frequent warning sounds. Leapmotor intends to release over-the-air software updates to refine these aspects before the UK market receives the first units, with orders opening in October and deliveries slated for December.
