LeBron James debuts for the 76ers against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden

LeBron James will make his first appearance as a Philadelphia 76er on Oct. 20, facing the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

LeBron James, 41, begins his post-Lakers chapter with the Philadelphia 76ers by taking on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 20. The game, kicking off at 7 p.m. ET, is part of a three-team season-opening broadcast on one outlet and Peacock. James, who signed a reported two-year, multimillion-dollar contract, will line up against current champion guard Jalen Brunson and his teammates.

The 76ers also introduced former Boston Celtic Jaylen Brown as another new acquisition. In July, James said he had considered retirement but decided he still loves the game and wants to help Philadelphia contend for a title. He will later meet his former Lakers squad on Christmas Day.

Why it matters

James' move reshapes the NBA landscape and raises expectations for the 76ers' championship prospects.
