LeBron James teams up with Polymarket to promote sports prediction markets

LeBron James announced a partnership with prediction-market platform Polymarket, marking his first individual deal in the sector.

LeBron James revealed a new alliance with the prediction-market exchange Polymarket through a 14-second social-media clip in which he taps the "sports" floor at the company's imagined headquarters. The deal, the first individual athlete contract Polymarket has signed, is said to center on football and will be elaborated in a forthcoming announcement. One outlet said the partnership aims to leverage James' enthusiasm for the sport to broaden Polymarket’s audience.

The move follows a trend of athletes entering the prediction-market space, including Giannis Antetokounmpo’s stake in Kalshi and involvement from Bryson DeChambeau, Kyle Kuzma and Breanna Stewart. Major leagues have also embraced such platforms, with the NHL and MLB striking multiyear agreements with Polymarket and Kalshi. The collaboration highlights the growing intersection of professional sports and speculative market platforms.

Why it matters

The deal shows top athletes embracing prediction markets, signaling broader mainstream acceptance of these platforms.
