Lecornu faces heated questioning in Assembly as lycée protests intensify
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu was grilled by deputies from RN and LFI during a government Q&A session, while nationwide lycée protests continued.
On Tuesday, the Assembly nationale reconvened its routine questioning of the government, putting Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu under pressure from deputies of the RN and La France insoumise (LFI). The session unfolded against a backdrop of a severe crisis in French lycées, with students and unions staging large demonstrations, now in a third wave after weeks of blockades, violent confrontations and injuries. The meeting opened with a minute of silence to commemorate former Prime Minister Édouard Balladur, the only moment of unanimity in the chamber.
While many LFI legislators chose to join the street protests, the party’s leadership, including Mathilde Panot, Louis Boyard and Clémence Guetté, attended the session to voice criticism. The debate highlighted the growing tension between the government’s education policies and the demands of students and unions across the country.
Why it matters
