Left Party MPs Challenge New Antisemitism Pact with SPD and Greens
A group of Die Linke Bundestag members and officials are demanding revisions to a recently agreed antisemitism declaration with the SPD and Greens, and they call for an immediate halt to internal disciplinary procedures.
Shortly after Die Linke, the SPD and the Greens reached a consensus on handling antisemitic incidents, a faction within Die Linke has publicly called for the agreement to be amended. Bundestag deputies Nicole Gohlke, Cansin Köktürk and Violetta Bock, along with deputy party chair Özlem Demirel, claim the text is vague enough to encompass criticism of Israel’s occupation policies and label it a media-driven attack on the Left.
They further allege that the SPD and Greens seek to steer Die Linke’s internal disciplinary actions, potentially sanctioning members with pro-Palestinian views. The group urges an immediate end to any party or parliamentary exclusion proceedings, describing them as bureaucratic displacement. They also stress the need to refocus on social policies such as the expropriation of large property firms, warning against being marginalised by coalition partners.
Why it matters
The dispute could reshape Die Linke’s stance on Israel-Palestine issues and affect coalition dynamics in Berlin.
