Left-wing leaders plan free outdoor historical shows in Seine-Saint-Denis for 2027
Seine-Saint-Denis officials announced a series of free, open-air performances titled “Populaire: All Our Stories” to launch in the summer of 2027.
Stéphane Troussel, president of the Seine-Saint-Denis departmental council, unveiled plans for three free, outdoor shows called “Populaire: All Our Stories,” scheduled for the summer of 2027. The initiative, funded by departmental taxes, seeks to combine live performance with scholarly research to offer inclusive, multicultural perspectives on French history. Historians Guillaume Mazeau and Patrick Boucheron, known for previous high-profile productions, are leading the creative effort.
The program will feature a dramatization of the 1793 revolutionary attack on the royal necropolis in Saint-Denis, a celebration of popular sport in Saint-Ouen, and a musical journey through La Courneuve titled “Bab El-France.” Organizers argue the series will address France’s fragmented cultural narrative by highlighting diverse stories rather than a single national myth.
