Legendary British rapper Sway dies at 44, famed MOBO winner and Top Boy star
British rapper and actor Sway DaSafo, aged 44, has died; he was a MOBO award winner and appeared in the first episodes of Top Boy.
Derek Andrew Safo, known professionally as Sway DaSafo, died at the age of 44. The Ghanaian-born British rapper earned the MOBO Best Hip-Hop Act award in 2005 and later featured in the first two episodes of the TV drama Top Boy. His debut album This Is My Demo was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2006, and his hits include Little Derek, Silver & Gold and F Ur X. In 2016 he publicly discussed surviving Hodgkin lymphoma after undergoing chemotherapy.
Although the cause of his death was not released, reports say he passed away at his family home in Ghana. He is survived by his wife Helen and their four children—Jalil, AJ, Inaya and Imara—while fellow Top Boy star Kadeem Ramsay and fans expressed condolences online.
