Lenskart co-founder Peyush Bansal hits $1 billion net worth after stock surge
Peyush Bansal, co-founder of Lenskart, entered the billionaire ranks as the retailer’s shares jumped to a record near 627 rupees, boosting his stake’s value to about $1 billion.
Co-founder Peyush Bansal has become the latest Indian billionaire after Lenskart’s shares peaked at almost 627 rupees on the NSE, lifting his near-9 % stake and IPO proceeds to an estimated $1 billion. The eyewear retailer reported a four-fold rise in net profit to 2.28 billion rupees for the quarter ended June 30, fueled by strong sales at home and abroad. Headquartered in Faridabad, Lenskart now runs 3,459 stores across 16 nations, adding 132 new locations—116 in India and 16 overseas—in the most recent quarter.
Founded in 2010 by Bansal, his sister Neha, Amit Chaudhari and Sumeet Kapahi, the firm moved from a purely online model with virtual try-on technology to a large brick-and-mortar network. SoftBank remains the largest shareholder with close to a 10 % stake after a post-IPO sale, while other investors include Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, KKR and TPG. Analysts note that Lenskart’s scale, vertical integration and aggressive store rollout position it ahead of rivals such as Titan Eye +.
