LFI deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo files new complaint alleging foreign influence
Deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo has lodged a fresh complaint accusing an unnamed party of collaborating with a foreign power, citing alleged corruption and false information.
La France Insoumise deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo has filed a new complaint that charges an unnamed person with cooperating with a foreign power, highlighting alleged ties to the United Arab Emirates. The complaint, presented to the senior investigating judge of the Paris judicial court, expands the accusations to include corruption, influence peddling, false denunciation, and the propagation of false information. Bilongo's attorneys argue that an earlier simple complaint was dismissed without sufficient investigation, and they now demand a thorough inquiry into how the Tracfin financial intelligence note was created and leaked.
They seek to trace the note's production chain, identify the source of the leak, and verify any communications with Emirati authorities prior to its issuance. The deputy previously criticized the UAE's organization of COP28 and claimed the Tracfin note was part of a cabal against him. The French public accounts ministry later denied that Tracfin acted on foreign direction. Tracfin has not yet responded to the latest inquiry.
Why it matters
The case raises concerns about foreign influence on French political figures and the integrity of financial intelligence investigations.
