LFI plans legal action against Interior Minister Nuñez over alleged intelligence falsehoods

La France Insoumise announced it will sue Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez before the Cour de justice de la République, citing a Mediapart report that the government pressured intelligence services to blame the party for recent urban violence.

Following a Mediapart exposé, La France Insoumise intends to bring Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez before the Cour de justice de la République, alleging abuse of power. The investigation cited a territorial intelligence commissioner who reported being instructed to explicitly attribute recent urban violence to LFI, a claim he said was objectively false according to the intelligence community. Manuel Bompard, the party’s national coordinator, condemned the directive as the creation of false documents and an overreach of ministerial prerogatives, labeling it a state scandal.

He emphasized that manipulating intelligence reports to target LFI is wholly unacceptable. The party plans to pursue legal recourse for what it calls the manufacturing of false evidence. The case highlights tensions between the government and opposition over the handling of public order incidents.

Why it matters

It raises concerns about government misuse of intelligence services to politically target opposition parties.
