LHDN reports over 2.09 billion e-invoices processed, launches analytics-driven compliance program
Malaysia's Inland Revenue Board says more than 2.09 billion e-invoices have been filed since the digital rollout, and it has added analytics tools to improve tax compliance.
Since the staged launch of the e-invoice system, Malaysia's Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has received more than 2.09 billion electronic invoices, reflecting participation from over 269,000 registered taxpayers. Director Mohd Syazli Mokthar explained that the platform’s comprehensive data enables a clearer view of the economy and transaction flows, while built-in analytics automatically filter and evaluate submissions using descriptive to prescriptive functions.
The board clarified that unusual data patterns do not automatically signal tax evasion, as they may stem from timing or accounting adjustments. To address common filing mistakes, LHDN introduced a Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme that waives penalties for corrections made before Dec 31 2027. Additionally, the exemption ceiling for micro, small and medium enterprises has been increased from RM1 million to RM3 million, with encouragement for voluntary adoption of e-invoicing to speed digitalisation.
Why it matters
The initiative boosts tax transparency, helps the government monitor economic activity, and offers relief to businesses correcting past filing errors.
