Liberal Party pushes for 40 CPI testimonies and bank-record access on former police chief

The Iniciativa Liberal filed a parliamentary request demanding around 40 witnesses be heard and that Luís Neves’s personal bank statements and property deeds be disclosed.

The Iniciativa Liberal submitted a formal request to the parliamentary inquiry probing Luís Neves’s period as director of the Polícia Judiciária, calling for the interrogation of about 40 prominent figures such as António Costa, Rita Júdice, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, João Massano and Ricardo Carrilho. The party also demands comprehensive financial documentation, including Neves’s personal bank statements during his directorship, credit-card transaction logs, and the titles of Alentejo properties he acquired between 2024 and 2025.

Additionally, it requests the Via Verde identifier associated with the vehicle seized from Ruben Oliveira, known as “Xuxas,” during Operation Exotic Fruit. This extensive list mirrors Chega’s earlier proposal for at least 50 testimonies, whereas the PCP’s submission is confined to four witnesses: Luís Neves, current director Carlos Cabreiro, former deputy director Luísa Proença and deputy director Álvaro Pires. The IL’s move aims to broaden the scope of the CPI’s investigation into alleged irregularities within the police judiciary.

Why it matters

The request could significantly widen the parliamentary probe into the former police chief’s conduct and financial dealings.
