Libya rejects claims that Ukraine used Misrata base for attacks on Russian ships

Libya's defence ministry issued a communique rejecting reports that Ukrainian forces were operating drones from the Misrata military base to strike Russian ships in the Mediterranean. The statement said it had become aware of media claims about the base being used for external military actions and denied any agreement, arrangement, or coordination permitting such use. It stressed that Libyan facilities are not being employed for attacks beyond the state's sovereign duties.

The denial follows an incident in which the Russian methane carrier Arctic Metagaz suffered explosions and a fire near Syrte, an event Moscow attributed to Ukrainian drone launches from Libyan territory. No evidence of a formal partnership between Ukrainian operators and Libyan forces was presented. The ministry's response underscores Libya's stance on maintaining neutrality in the regional conflict.
