Libyan security forces find six migrant bodies after desert vehicle breakdown
Libyan authorities recovered six migrant corpses in the desert northwest of Jalu after their vehicle stalled, while rescuing 19 others.
According to a statement from the Alwahat Security Directorate, security teams in southeast Libya uncovered six migrant bodies after a vehicle broke down in a remote desert area roughly 200 km northwest of Jalu. Investigators found two corpses inside the stranded vehicle, three more about four kilometres from the site, and a final one approximately ten kilometres away, following footprints. The same incident resulted in the rescue of 19 migrants on Sunday, though the rescue location was not specified.
Documentation linked the vehicle to an owner from Chad, and his brother, who was among those rescued, said a second vehicle siphoned fuel from the broken one and proceeded onward. Images released showed security staff alongside the Fifth Battalion of the 129th Brigade handling the remains in black plastic bags. The findings highlight the perilous routes migrants use through Libya toward Europe.
