Lidl chicken products found contaminated with salmonella, consumers urged not to eat

The State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) identified salmonella bacteria in two Romanian-origin chicken products sold by Lidl, specifically a corn-flavored wing item and a fresh thigh quarter. spokesman Marek Bartík explained that because the meat was sold chilled, it has already been withdrawn from stores, but many households may still have it frozen. Experts stress that freezing does not eliminate the bacteria and recommend discarding the meat entirely.

The inspection has initiated administrative proceedings to impose a fine on the retailer and has entered the case into the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) for further investigation. This incident adds to several other salmonella detections in poultry this year, including turkey and chicken from various chains and origins, some of which were previously recalled after testing in Strakonice and Pelhřimov.
