Lidl Switzerland pulls smoked trout fillets after Listeria contamination

Lidl Schweiz has withdrawn Nautica smoked trout fillets from shelves after the Swiss food safety office detected Listeria in the product.

Swiss authorities have identified Listeria bacteria in Nautica brand smoked trout fillets sold by Lidl Schweiz, prompting a swift product recall. The Bundesamt für Lebensmittelsicherheit und Veterinärwesen issued a warning that the contaminated fillets could pose a health hazard, especially to newborns, young children, seniors, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems. While people with intact immunity might only experience mild or no symptoms, the infection can lead to severe complications, including miscarriage, sepsis or meningitis.

Lidl Schweiz removed the affected stock from all stores and initiated a recall for items with the best-before date 01.11.2026. The agency recommends that anyone possessing the product discard it and avoid consumption.

Why it matters

A contaminated food product can cause serious illness in vulnerable groups, so the recall protects public health.
