Liège prosecutor says Sprimont bomb threat suspect uncooperative as case moves to investigation
A man born in 1980 from the Liège area who threatened an explosion in Sprimont was questioned but did not cooperate, and the case has been forwarded for formal investigation.
According to the Liège division prosecutor Gilles de Villers Grand Champs, a 1980-born individual residing in the Liège region threatened to set off an explosion in Sprimont. He was summoned for an initial interview but was not cooperative. On Sunday afternoon the case was placed under formal investigation, with the public prosecutor classifying the acts as a threat of attack against persons and property and as malicious obstruction of traffic that resulted in two lightly injured victims.
Because the obstruction was intentional, aggravating factors may apply. The prosecutor has requested that the suspect be placed under a detention warrant, a decision that will be taken by the investigating judge. The investigation may also involve a psychiatric expert to assess the suspect's mental responsibility.
Why it matters
The incident raises public safety concerns and could lead to detention and legal consequences for the suspect.
