Life-sentenced gangster granted 12-hour parole to wed Cambodian partner in Haryana

Mainpal Dhilla, also known as Mainpal Badli, is serving a life sentence for murder, attempted murder, illegal firearm use and criminal conspiracy stemming from a 2007 case in Bahadurgarh. He was granted a 12-hour parole to marry his Cambodian partner, Meta Chan, at Dulina Farm on the Jhajjar-Gurugram Road, a venue roughly 1.5 km from the jail where he is held. The ceremony, attended by roughly 500 guests, was tightly guarded by at least 100 police personnel, with strict entry checks and a ban on media.

Dhilla and Chan, who met during Dhilla’s 2018 parole and later lived together in Siem Reap, have three children. Following the wedding rituals, Dhilla returned to prison at 8 p.m., resuming his life term without remission. The parole was issued under strict legal conditions due to Dhilla’s prior escape to Cambodia after a 2018 parole, which involved an Interpol Red Notice and coordination between the CBI, Haryana police and Cambodian authorities.
