Lightning strike in Margate kills mother and her 2-year-old twin daughter

A mother and her 2-year-old twin daughter were fatally injured by a lightning bolt in Margate, Florida, while the child's father watched.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, a lightning bolt struck Kenya Glasgow, 31, and her 2-year-old twin daughter Kennedi on a sidewalk in Margate, Florida. Kam Glasgow, the father, recounted witnessing the strike and the residual ground discharge before seeing his wife and child on the ground. Emergency crews arrived quickly, administered CPR, and took the two to different hospitals, where each was subsequently declared dead.

Kam, who has another twin daughter, Kensli, said the family is relying on support from relatives and friends. Police have opened an investigation into the unusual event, which the father described as a "1 in 1.2 million" tragedy.
