Lightning strike kills woman on Brazil's Palhoça beach amid severe storms

Footage shows a 39-year-old woman walking on Pinheira Beach in Palhoça when a lightning discharge struck her, causing her to fall beside her companion. The Santa Catarina fire department reached the scene about fifteen minutes after the strike, discovering her unresponsive with burn marks, while the companion performed CPR. Paramedics used a defibrillator and rushed her to an emergency facility in Sonho, later transferring her to São José Regional Hospital, where she passed away on Saturday morning.
The storm system that produced the strike also caused additional fatalities, including an 8-year-old boy in Rio Grande do Sul after a tree collapsed onto his home, and a 72-year-old driver swept away by floodwaters. Authorities from both states are responding to the broader weather emergency that has affected multiple communities.
