Linke MP Ferat Koçak defends phone-number giveaway after Remmo clan contact

Ferat Koçak posted a five-minute Instagram video insisting his outreach to Firas Remmo was harmless and that sharing his phone number is part of his elected role.

Ferat Koçak, a member of the Bundestag for Die Linke, used Instagram to address criticism over his association with the Remmo clan. He claimed his practice of sharing his phone number with constituents is a duty of his office and denied any involvement with organized crime, emphasizing his stance against pre-judging people. The contact began when Koçak solicited used phones for activists, prompting Firas Remmo to offer a device and request Koçak’s number.

After meeting Remmo’s father, Issa, Koçak recognized the familial link and subsequently limited direct interaction with the clan. He argued that his actions were transparent, citing chat logs as evidence, and expressed a desire to resume constituency office hours in Neukölln once the situation permits. Critics, however, find his narrative implausible and question the propriety of the relationship.
