Lisbon City Council votes to halt shared electric scooters

Lisbon's municipal council approved a suspension of the shared electric scooter system, citing safety and public space concerns.

Lisbon's municipal council approved a plan to suspend the existing shared electric scooter program, aiming to improve city organization and public safety. Mayor Carlos Moedas said the decision addresses problems like illegal parking and the hindrance of pedestrians, especially seniors, people with reduced mobility, blind citizens, children, and families with baby carriages. The resolution was supported by multiple political groups, notably PCP and BE.

It also calls for the creation of a Soft Mobility Municipal Regulation, with a draft to be presented within a year. Operators are given a 60-day window to stop operations and fully retrieve the scooters from public spaces.
