Lithuania and Ukraine to launch joint drone and EW components plant by 2027
Lithuanian defence firm Pekkla and Ukraine’s December One RND signed a letter of intent to build a factory in Lithuania for electronic-warfare and drone parts, with production slated for 2027.
Lithuanian defence technology company Pekkla and Ukrainian firm December One RND have formalised plans to set up a joint factory in Lithuania for electronic-warfare gear and drone components, with a launch date aimed at 2027. The agreement was sealed in a letter of intent signed while Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas was in Ukraine, emphasizing a goal to source electronic-warfare equipment from Lithuanian manufacturers and Ukrainian products localized in Lithuania.
Pekkla will provide access to its facilities and business networks in Vilnius, while December One RND will contribute research, development know-how and production capabilities. The initiative is part of a defence-industry cooperation pact Lithuania signed in May, seeking to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs and speed delivery of technology. Invest Lithuania’s head, Elijus Civilis, noted that several Ukrainian defence investors have already cleared Lithuania’s strategic-transaction screening. The venture aims to boost production capacity and strengthen bilateral defence ties.
Why it matters
The plant will enhance Ukraine’s access to advanced drones and electronic-warfare tools while deepening defence cooperation between the two nations.
