Lithuania puts Andrius Blaževičius' war-time drama on Oscar shortlist
Andrius Blaževičius' film “How to Divorce During the War” has been chosen as Lithuania's entry for the Best International Feature Oscar.
Lithuania announced that Andrius Blaževičius' third feature, “How to Divorce During the War,” will represent the nation in the Best International Feature category at the Oscars. The film, which earned the directing prize in Sundance’s World Cinema Dramatic Competition, portrays a high-ranking executive named Marija navigating a divorce with her husband Vytas amid the looming Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. After touring more than 30 festivals and winning awards in Hong Kong, Las Palmas and Uruguay, the picture secured U.S. theatrical distribution through Zeitgeist Films and Kino Lorber, with a release set for Aug. 21. The Lithuanian Film Centre’s selection committee approved the entry, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has accepted it for the 99th awards ceremony slated for March 14, 2027.
