Lithuanian defence chief starts US tour to discuss troops and arms deals
Lithuania’s defence minister Robertas Kaunas began a week-long trip to the United States to talk about security, joint defence projects and the stationing of US forces in Lithuania.
Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas arrived in the United States for a seven-day diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening security ties and reviewing the presence of American troops on Lithuanian soil. He will confer with Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby as well as senators Patty Murray and Roger F. Wicker about the broader strategic situation. The itinerary features meetings with senior representatives of defence contractors Lockheed Martin, Palantir, Northrop Grumman, Mach Industries and Epirus Inc., underscoring ongoing procurement.
Kaunas will also visit the Pennsylvania National Guard and meet its commander, Major General John Pippy, a link that has existed since the 1993 State Partnership Programme. Lithuania’s recent purchases from the United States total about €2 billion, covering systems such as Javelin anti-tank missiles, JLTV armoured vehicles, Black Hawk helicopters, HIMARS launchers and AMRAAM missiles for NASAMS air defence.
