Lithuanian raid uncovers over half a tonne of meth and amphetamine
Police in Lithuania seized more than 500 kg of methamphetamine, 300 kg of amphetamine and large amounts of precursors from a massive drug lab, charging four suspects.
Saulius Briginas, deputy head of the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau, announced that a police operation uncovered a drug laboratory producing methamphetamine and amphetamine on an almost industrial scale. Seized material included more than 500 kg of meth, 300 kg of amphetamine, around 4.5 kg of synthetic cathinones and about 300 litres of phenyl-2-propanone, a key precursor, amounting to over four million individual doses.
The extensive search lasted more than three days and involved dozens of officers. Investigators believe the lab supplied drugs to other European nations such as the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Belgium. A separate attempt to smuggle 17 kg of crystalline meth out of Lithuania was foiled at a logistics firm. Prosecutor Rolandas Imbrasas reported that four people have been charged with possessing large quantities of psychotropic substances as members of an organised group.
